How is the double glazing built?
Double glazing consists of at least two panes of glass separated by a spacer. The spaces between the individual panes are usually filled with argon or krypton. The spacer has a molecular sieve, i.e. a material that absorbs moisture. Its task is to ensure adequate dryness of the gas filling the chambers between the panes. The entire glazing unit has a double seal. The first degree of sealing is based on the use of butyl, which allows the glass to be joined with the frame. It prevents the ingress of water vapor into the space between the glass panes. The second degree of sealing can be provided, for example, by polyurethane. In this way, a permanent seal of the entire insert is obtained.
Thermal insulation glass – what is it?
The basic type of glass used in insulating glass units is float glass. In order to provide the package with appropriate thermal parameters, i.e. the lowest possible heat transfer coefficient, low-emission coatings are used. In the case of a single-chamber glass pane, i.e. consisting of two glass panes, the coating is on the pane located closer to the inside (third position). Double-chamber double glazing requires the use of two low-emission coatings (on the second and fifth position). Glass with low-emission coatings (also known as thermo coatings) are referred to as heat-insulating.
What are the parameters of insulating glass?
The properties of individual insulating glass units are compared using various parameters, e.g .:
- AT g – heat transfer coefficient ,
- g – solar energy transmittance coefficient ,
- NS vol – light transmission coefficient ,
- Rw (C; Ctr) – noise attenuation coefficient .
These parameters make it possible to select the cartridge that will meet the needs of its future user. For example, residents of houses located in a noisy district may pay attention to the high value of the noise reduction coefficient. On the other hand, people who want the greatest possible amount of natural light to enter their apartment should be guided by a high light transmission factor.
Double glazing – types
Depending on the structure and parameters, the glass can perform various functions. Cartridges with a low solar energy transmittance are referred to as solar control elements. Those with a high noise reduction coefficient belong to the group of sound-absorbing panes. When the standard pane of glass is replaced by two panes with a PVB foil between them, we speak of laminated glass. Packages with this type of glass can perform the function safe or anti-burglary . It is also worth noting that one of the glass panes can be ornamental glass which gives the entire structure a unique look.
